Rant on TMOHS

This is a permanent page because it's one of my favorite series. This is basically a review-rant.

I'm pretty sure that you all know who this is. Haruhi.

Haruhi Suzumiya is a girl who has special powers. Her powers are as follows: Haruhi can take the world around her and manipulate it to her liking. Luckily for her brigade members, she is unaware of her abilities. Her eccentric personality makes her want to meet aliens, time travelers, espers, and sliders. Haruhi is demanding and listens to no one but herself. Though she is beautiful, smart, athletic, and is the leader of the school club, the SOS Brigade, she is not admired as you might think. All she wants is the world to be more interesting. In a sick and unfair way, she is a god.

Kyon is the ultra-normal guy in the SOS Brigade. Despite the name of the series, it centers around him. He narrates the entire show, manga, and novel. The dude has no special powers, besides complaining. He's pretty deadpan, a little pervy, and never wanted to get involved with Haruhi, but he did. Don't ask about his full name because no one knows.

Mikuru Asahina is the club mascot and the oldest member. She is a human, unlike Haruhi, but she came from the future. She's the time traveler Haruhi wanted to meet. Obviously, she is insanely cute, sweet, and gorgeous. Her personality is basically shy, kind, childish, and a little nervous. Her higher-up Time Travelers give her orders, and she follows them, without all the knowledge of why.

Yuki Nagato is the silent figure of the SOS Brigade. She is in short, an alien. In full, a humanoid interface designed to make contact with Haruhi Suzumiya. She was created by the Data Overmind (Data Integration Thought Entity/ Integrated Data Sentient Entity in the anime) and transcends time and space. As far as I know, her only personality trait is she likes books. Until the movie.

Itsuki Koizumi is the nice guy of the SOS Brigade, that goes along with everything Haruhi tells him to do without any problem. He's an Esper (has the power to use ESP) and is the fifth member of SOS. Koizumi has and gives out the most information about Haruhi's powers, which he received from members of the Agency of Espers. He is a pretty good friend to Kyon, and was declared the Brigade Lieutenant.

In short, this series is fantastic. It is narrated by everybody's favorite complainer, Kyon. All of the story is about Kyon's interactions with Haruhi, and how everything turns out. The members of the SOS Brigade (besides Haruhi) work to suppress Haruhi's powers and make sure that any phenomena that occurs because of Haruhi's powers are stopped.
In the club room, Nagato sits and reads a book. Mikuru is put through a strange form of sexual harassment called cosplay. Koizumi hangs around playing Othello and Chess while smiling. Kyon looks gloomy and complains about everything that goes on. Haruhi screams her ridiculous plans across the room. Tanabata, movies, baseball, summer, everything. The SOS Brigade does it all.

In my opinion, this series is awesome. The plot and characters are all pretty creative, the narration is sarcastic and entertaining, and there is a good balance of funny and serious. The novels are hilarious with a good writing style that's not hard to keep up with.

The photo above is from the movie, The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya.

The plot is as follows:

The SOS Brigade is planning a Christmas Eve party. The day is December 17th. Morning, December 18th, Kyon wakes up to find his world has changed. A lot. One unexplainable difference: Haruhi Suzumiya is gone from North High. Itsuki Koizumi is gone from North High. No one remembers them. Another major factor, Ryoko Asakura is back. Yuki Nagato has emotions. Mikuru Asahina doesn't know Kyon.

The world has gone crazy.

Now, Kyon feels he needs to find Haruhi and return the world to normal, before time runs out.

This is the OST (Original Sound Track) cover for the movie. Ask questions after you watch it.

When this movie was released in theatres all across Japan, it quickly escalated in popularity, to the point of being declared #1 animated movie in the country. The release date for the English dub of the movie has not been specified, Bandi entertainment just says it will be in Spring, 2011. We all have something to look forward to. I'm gonna throw in the trailer, just to make you guys happy.
